SEALY, TX – Deep in the heart of Texas exists a place where every gearhead and shade tree mechanic who ever dreamed of making a career out of their passion for building and modifying cars can come to learn from the best in the business.
Since 2007, Tuner School has quietly been training the next generation of high-performance professionals from within the walls of one of the world’s largest performance automotive operations: Hennessey Performance.
Founded by HPE president, John Hennessey, Tuner School is a 14-week program dedicated to teaching its students the secrets to success in the high-performance automotive aftermarket. It was established as a way to offer its students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hone their craft, learn from professionals in the field, and springboard their career in the aftermarket industry.
Tuner School’s unique curriculum immerses its students in a combination of classroom education and hands-on experience, all while surrounded by the day-to-day operations of HPE’s 30,000+ square foot facility. With dozens of high-horsepower vehicles coming and going, including Dodge Vipers, Challengers, Ford GT’s, Corvette ZR1’s, the revived Chevy Camaro, Nissan GT-R’s and more, students are placed in a rare position to experience every nuance of working within a high-performance automotive business.
Spanning a range of horsepower-induced topics, including engine building, forced induction and dyno testing, Tuner School covers all aspects of building and modifying some of the fastest cars in the world. From suspensions and transmissions to fabrication, engine management tuning, circuit driving, race applications and more, each lesson is geared toward giving students a well-rounded education they can put to use the next day. With a limited class size per session, students are ensured ample guidance and exposure to all that Tuner School offers.
Located 40 minutes west of Houston at Lonestar Motorsports Park, students of Tuner School are given the opportunity to test and document their class projects on-site, courtesy of Lonestar’s 1/4 mile drag strip and snaking return roads (soon to become part of a full road course). Past Tuner School projects have included the construction of a twin turbo Mustang GT and custom fabricating parts for the brand new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Tuner School’s alumni have gone on to begin their careers in a variety of positions. From joining the HPE staff, returning home to work for their local performance shop, joining race teams, or even striking out to establish their own business, the opportunities waiting for students is only limited by their drive to achieve them.
Accredited by the State of Texas, the Fall 2009 session is beginning, with enrollment now open for Spring 2010. For more information, please visit www.tunerschool.com or call (979) 885-1300.
